Why does my 1TB drive show 931 GB?

Drive makers use decimal GB (1 billion bytes). Your OS uses binary GiB (1,073,741,824 bytes). 1 TB = 931.3 GiB.

What is the difference between MB and MiB?

MB = 1,000,000 bytes (decimal). MiB = 1,048,576 bytes (binary). The IEC introduced KiB/MiB/GiB to avoid ambiguity.
